Date: Saturday, April 12, 2025
Time: 3:30 – 7:00
Cost: $110/student
Class Description:
Ready to take your rigid heddle weaving in a new direction? This workshop with Andrea Alexander is all about experimenting with unconventional techniques like inlay, supplemental warp, and clasped weft. If you're comfortable warping and eager to explore, this class will give you the tools to add texture, depth, and personality to your weaving.
Class Schedule:
In this time period, we will cover an assortment of hand-manipulation techniques to expand your toolkit for future weaving projects! Participants will have plenty of time to sample each technique and explore additional ways to modify the techniques. In a 3-hour time period, we can cover:
Finger fringes
Inlay techniques
Supplemental warps
2 and 3-color clasped wefts
And more!
Please arrive 30 minutes early to ensure you have time to select your yarns and set up for the workshop.
Students will need to bring:
Schacht Cricket Loom, threaded with a warp minimum 3 yards long x 10” wide. Your warp can be made of any yarn in any color; feel free to pick a warp color that inspires you! Please ensure that you select a strong, reliable warp yarn that is not prone to breakage. If you are unable to bring a loom, we have looms pre-warped with black yarn available to rent for an additional cost, so please let us know when you sign up if you’d like to borrow a loom.
At least two stick shuttles
Scissors
Students will need to purchase 2 balls of Circulo “Natural Cotton 4/4” in two contrasting colors when they come to class (Purchase at Beyond Yarn; please arrive 30 minutes early to make your selections).
If you have some funky, textured yarns in your stash, please feel free to bring any to have as extra weft options. Andrea will also bring some yarns to share!
